A case study on community-based learning to activate agency

Presented at the UCDA Design Educators Design Summit: Agency in Johnson City, TN in May 2022. This case study documents the exploration of creating community-based learning and activating agency in a junior-level course. Different niches were embraced. Learners were encouraged to collaborate their expertise with the community to support and benefit from their peers. Additionally, learners were encouraged to choose the attendance modality that best suited their needs per class meeting. Lastly, delivery was democratized; students voted when to move forward with course materials and even when assignments were due.
